Discovering God’s plan for our lives can be a challenging and life-changing experience. For us, it involved following the Holy Spirit’s leading to Norway.
I am thrilled to share with you the incredible journey that God has taken me and my wife on, as we followed the guidance of the Holy Spirit step by step towards Norway. It is my hope that our story will ignite a spark within you and encourage you to take bold steps in your own faith journey with the Holy Spirit by your side.
Romans 8:14 reminds us that those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. As believers, we can trust the leading of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that He will guide us into all truth and tell us about things to come, so we can be prepared.
In 1981, my parents embarked on a courageous journey to spread the Gospel as missionaries from Italy to France. Growing up, we resided in a Christian community, which also happened to be a Bible school. It played a vital role in shaping my formative years. Although this period significantly impacted my upbringing, I had never contemplated following my parents’ path to become a missionary. However, in 2005, everything changed when I was invited to attend a Jesus revolution concert that left an indelible mark on my soul. I felt God’s presence so strongly in the room, and I realized that was the kind of Christianity I longed for.
Finding Destiny in a Dream
We found ourselves praying prayers that we had never uttered before.
During this event, I felt a prompting from the Holy Spirit to join the Jesus revolution summer team. Although the dates did not match, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that the Holy Spirit was trying to show me something. A few weeks later, I had a dream about a man sitting on a rock by the shore. As I approached the man, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and showed me that he was the director of Jesus revolution, and I would serve the Lord next to him. He showed me details I could not know on my own.
I woke up confused and didn’t understand the dream. A short time later, while at a prayer meeting, a pastor had a vision. It was as if a screen rolled down from the ceiling before his eyes. He described the «movie». He saw my wife and me in a boat, in the North Sea, and there was a raging storm. He also saw a lighthouse in Norway and heard the Holy Spirit saying that Norway was where we would find our destiny. After describing the whole «movie», it all rolled up the same way it had rolled down.
We were left with a mixture of confusion and anticipation having been exposed to such profound experiences. During a challenging time in our lives, we found ourselves praying prayers that we had never uttered before. The Lord began to work in our hearts, growing our desire to embrace the missionary lifestyle. The Holy Spirit spoke to us again, this time, through Loren Cunningham’s book «Is That Really You God?,» which is all about walking with God on a faith journey.
The Challenge of Letting Go
We were unsure whether God had truly called us to Norway. We had concerns about leaving our families, our home, and our jobs. We also wondered how we would manage without a job and how we would learn the language. We decided to spend a week seeking God in a cabin, and the Holy Spirit answered our questions, this time with a question of His own: «Are you the one who is to come, or shall we wait for someone else?» (Matthew 11:3). Just as John the Baptist had doubts, we had our doubts as well. We wondered if Norway was truly the answer to our call or if we were supposed to wait for something else.
The Holy Spirit’s question felt like a bomb inside us. It became clear to us that Norway was, in fact, God’s response to our calling and that we should not delay any longer. Additionally, the Holy Spirit directed us to sell all of our possessions and donate the proceeds to those in need. We followed His guidance and set out on a faith journey that brought us to Norway just a few months later.
A Journey of Faith and Sacrifice
Remember that God’s plan for your life is from glory to glory, and He has no intention of keeping you stagnant.
Enrolling in the Bible school Evidence of Faith (tbbmi.no) in Oslo, we fully committed ourselves to our faith journey. During our time there, we learned to rely on God’s provisions rather than our own savings, and through every season, He proved to be faithful. Even though many years have gone by, we still sense that we are just at the beginning of this journey. Nevertheless, I have an unwavering conviction that the Holy Spirit’s direction will lead us from glory to glory.
As children of God, we have through the Scriptures the assurance that we are led by the Holy Spirit. If you find yourself doubting and waiting for God’s promises to manifest in your life, I urge you to persevere in your fellowship with the Holy Spirit, who will guide you along the way. Remember that God’s plan for your life is from glory to glory, and He has no intention of keeping you stagnant. Trust in His promises and His provisions, and He will lead you on to greater things.
