Mary, the mother of Jesus, did not have a timeline. She did not have a plan, a platform, or a precedent. What she had was a word, spoken by an angel in an ordinary moment of an ordinary day, and the choice of whether or not to believe it before a single visible thing had changed.
Mary’s relative, Elizabeth’s declaration over her was not simply a greeting. It was a recognition. Blessed is she who believed. Not blessed is she who understood. Not blessed is she who had it all mapped out. Blessed is she who, in the absence of evidence, chose faith over fear and said yes to what God had spoken.
That is the posture of prepared expectation. Not the restless straining of someone demanding God move on their schedule. Not the passive resignation of someone who has stopped believing altogether. It is the quiet, settled conviction of someone who has received a word, surrendered the outcome, and now stands ready, open, watching, and fully persuaded that what God has promised, He will fulfill.
Isaiah caught the same spirit centuries earlier:
God is always preparing something that exceeds the reach of our imagination. Mary could not have conceived of what her yes would produce, not just the birth of a child, but the redemption of the world. What God was preparing was so far beyond what she could have engineered that the only appropriate response was belief.
Preparation, in the Kingdom of God, looks less like activity and more like alignment. It is the inner work of positioning the heart to receive what the hand of God is already moving toward us. Mary carried the promise before anyone could see it. She prepared in hiddenness, in the quiet months before anything was publicly visible. When the fulfillment came, it came not because she had managed it into existence but because she had believed it into readiness.
Twenty years of Shake The Nations has been marked by moments like this, seasons of carrying a promise that had not yet become visible, of preparing in obscurity for a harvest that was already on its way. The word was always ahead of the evidence. The preparation was always the proof of the belief.
And so September asks a simple question of every one of us: what has God spoken over your life that you have stopped carrying? What promise have you set down because the evidence has not yet caught up with the word? Mary did not set it down. She held it, prepared around it, and waited with the full expectation of someone who had decided that God could be trusted with the fulfillment.
